Yesterday we took the Red Cat (a totally FREE really nice bus) to the store. The free buses don't run on the weekends, and I don't have my bus pass yet, so I knew I was going to hoof it. Which is fine.
Michelle told me there is a shortcut through the Police Academy that I can take (only on weekends when the academy isn't in session) so I figured I would try to find that.
I found it (at the time I HOPED I was on the right track) and it led me to a nice neighborhood of condos, and after walking for a bit and taking a left turn I found a cafe which to me was like an Oasis in the desert. After not eating for almost 24 hours I was famished. I went in and had pancakes and hot chocolate. It cost me $17. But it was all delicious so it was worth it.
At the end of the street that the cafe was on was the Shopping Mall that had the grocery store in it. All in all it really wasn't that far from my dorm. I estimate a 10-15 minute walk.
I shopped at coles (pronounced like Kohl's) and brought my backpack and one bag with me to carry everything home. I was able to buy an impressive amount of groceries and carry it all home.
Groceries:
One orange soda
One Coca-Cola
Once jar of pasta sauce
jar of jam
sandwich bags
spinach ricotta ravioli's
Half gallon of milk
3 bottles of iced tea
2 snack packs of oreos
2 cups of rice
butter
Lime and black pepper chips
multi-grain sandwich bread
sourdough bread loaf
peanut butter
tim tams (supposedly Aussies are famous for these
They're a chocolate biscuit thing)
salt
Frosties (Frosted flakes)
Noodles (Like top ramen)
tangelos
apples
all for $64.97--not too bad.
Here's the police academy, right next door to my dorm.
(Does this comfort you mom?)
"Police academy Keep Out!"
I entered in the "weekends permitted" area.
On the police academy campus
Look! People steal and abandon shopping carts here too!
(After I was outside the Police Academy of course)
Walking in the cold looking 'feral'
(Michelle explained to me this means looking rugged, ugly, homeless etc)
Like a feral cat!
Sun rising over the condos
You don't Yield in Australia...
you Give Way!
Kanga Crossing! Except I didn't see any.
They LOOOVE roundabouts here.
Greg, this pic was especially for you.
You know what I did running around it ;)
The cafe where I ate.

Look Mom its the bank that partners with BOA
I found it!
I want to try this! It's like butter I guess.
My items.
Driveway entrance to my dorm. "The Village"
My building (I'm on the ground floor)
Unit 34
Front door.
Sweaty, accomplished, and feeling buff I made it home!
That's all for my first adventure!
P.S. The chips I bought... (Black pepper and lime) are the best chips I've ever had!

So informative and fun! Thanks for posting so quickly. It is fun to see all the pictures too. We can kind of live your adventure from afar! I love your sense of humor too. Yes, I feel safer that the poice academy is near you. :) I really can't imagine a kangaroo hopping across the street in your neighborhood. Hopefully you will get to see that! Love you, Mom
