Yes I have made it safe and sound!
My OCD is screaming at me for not finishing my posts from my Europe trip last year (Sorry Italy, you got jipped) but it's time to start Australia posts so here goes!
The flights to get here were almost unbearable. San Francisco to Hong Kong was 13 hours. I had the window seat (as requested) and my seat mates were an elderly woman from india in the middle, and her son on the aisle.
Yes, she stank horribly. I'm guessing she took a shower 10 years ago...? Maybe? and she had no sense of personal space. She kept hogging the mutually shared armrest and elbowing me. Yes, I know she didn't do it on purpose but when you are stuck next to someone for 13 hours with no escape it gets annoying. THEN she accidentally spilled a whole bottle of water on me so I was wet for the majority of the flight.... awesome.
Needless to say I was STOKED to get off that plane. I didn't sleep more than 20 mins but I watched 5 movies.
Next was the flight from HK to Perth. I bought 2 bottles of water in the HK airport because on the last flight I was constantly thirsty but the airport security confiscated them! Even though I bought them inside the airport at a store right next to the gate, they don't allow liquids on the plane... I was so mad! I spent 24.00 HK dollars on those waters!
Anyway this 8 hour flight was more bearable. I sat next to a very polite young asian dude and he was cool. Watched 3 more movies, and slept for an hour.
I finally arrived in Perth around 6:30am on Friday (Australian time) We are 15 hours ahead of the U.S. here. I was picked up by a pick-up service I hired and the gentleman was very sweet. We talked all the way to my dorm (around 20 min drive) and he gave me lots of good advice.
When getting in the car I foolishly attempted to get in on the right side to which my driver responded with "Ahh, you'd like to drive us to Joondalup yeah?!" I forgot passengers sit on the LEFT side here. haha. I felt dumb but he said every American he picks up does it so whatever! I also warned him my bags were heavy and he said "I have never met a woman with a light bag miss Kylah" (Thats how my name sounds when they say it here)
So I arrived to my dorm around 7:30 am and got settled in. Met one of my roommates Michelle, 28 from Tazmania. She was extremely sweet. She let me go with her to the store and explained the bus system to me. The busses in Joondalup are free, but they dont run on weekends :(
I bought shampoo and conditioner so I could take a shower. After my shower Michelle and I went to the free brunch the dorm hosts on fridays, and after my shower I headed back to my room to finally sleep! I fell asleep some time around 3 in the afteroon and slept until 2 am! I laid in bed until 4 am until I couldn't lay anymore and I've just been playing on my computer since. Its now 7:13 am here and I am desperatley waiting until 8am when the closest store opens so I can go shopping. I am starving! I have to walk there and back but its only a mile or two.
If you want to contact me download either WhatsApp (texting) or tango (phone calls, video chat and texting) If you have an iPhone we can text for free over wifi, otherwise I leave my phone on airplane mode.
I'm off to go get food! Love you all!
P.S. everyone really does say "G'Day!" here.
