Glow Run!!!

FYI I've given up on trying to chronologically write and post my blog posts. Its too exhausting to do that, and considering I hardly have time to post at all anyway, I am just going to write about whatever I want whenever I can fit it into my schedule... so here goes!

Last night (Sept 21st) was the Perth Glow Run! All my friends and I from the on campus housing here participated in the event. Basically, it is a giant dance party posing as a 5K. We got together at the bar on campus before the event as ECU had a team (We all had matching race bibs with our numbers and ECU (our team name) on them) When we met at the bar on campus we all just hung out and then they (They being the guild-- who subsidized the cost of the Glow Run for us poor students) split all of us into 4 teams and we competed against each other in contests to get the party going. I did the trivia contest and got all the right answers but I didn't shout them out fast enough (yes I did the judge was just biased!) so I didn't win, but it all worked out because my friend Emily won a different contest and our prize was three jugs of alcoholic cider! The Aussies really do know how to party ;)

Then at 5:30 two "party buses" came to pick us all up and take us to the event. I put that in quotes because the drivers were crazy strict and there was nothing "party" about the buses at all. At one point the driver slammed on the brakes and pulled off the freeway to yell at us... yeah. That's another story to be told in person.

Anyway we got to the event and there was a DJ on a stage in this big park and all these vendors giving out free things and people selling food etc, you know typical event stuff. We spent about an hour dancing and hanging out, taking pictures, all that fun stuff before the "race" started. I think there were a total of 4-5 tents at intervals along the route, and at each tent there was a different theme and music and you could stay in the tent and dance and hang out as long as you wanted before you left for the next tent. My friend MAtt and I decided to run the whole thing (albeit stopping at each tent to do a little jig and cut a little rug... eric would be proud) Matt is in much better shape than me and finished the run way ahead of me but I kept up with him for quite a while! I did end the run actually running/jogging across the finish line and that was awesome.

It was a super fun night and we all had a great time and were exhausted by the end of it. My friend Emily made a video and posed it on facebook. Its on my page somewhere if you want to take a peek. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the night!
