KILLED IT!!

I just took an online test for my Forensic Science class and I KILLED IT! (haha...punny)

Seriously though, I have never been so confident about a test in my life. I felt SUPER SMART. Reading each question in my head I thought "Pssshhh?! I know this... EASY!" and it was such a wonderful feeling! If I don't get a 100% I will throw a temper tantrum for the record books...

Now I get 12 days off with my love FREE from any school work. I could not be a happier girl right now! :)

Glow Run!!!

FYI I've given up on trying to chronologically write and post my blog posts. Its too exhausting to do that, and considering I hardly have time to post at all anyway, I am just going to write about whatever I want whenever I can fit it into my schedule... so here goes!

Last night (Sept 21st) was the Perth Glow Run! All my friends and I from the on campus housing here participated in the event. Basically, it is a giant dance party posing as a 5K. We got together at the bar on campus before the event as ECU had a team (We all had matching race bibs with our numbers and ECU (our team name) on them) When we met at the bar on campus we all just hung out and then they (They being the guild-- who subsidized the cost of the Glow Run for us poor students) split all of us into 4 teams and we competed against each other in contests to get the party going. I did the trivia contest and got all the right answers but I didn't shout them out fast enough (yes I did the judge was just biased!) so I didn't win, but it all worked out because my friend Emily won a different contest and our prize was three jugs of alcoholic cider! The Aussies really do know how to party ;)

Then at 5:30 two "party buses" came to pick us all up and take us to the event. I put that in quotes because the drivers were crazy strict and there was nothing "party" about the buses at all. At one point the driver slammed on the brakes and pulled off the freeway to yell at us... yeah. That's another story to be told in person.

Anyway we got to the event and there was a DJ on a stage in this big park and all these vendors giving out free things and people selling food etc, you know typical event stuff. We spent about an hour dancing and hanging out, taking pictures, all that fun stuff before the "race" started. I think there were a total of 4-5 tents at intervals along the route, and at each tent there was a different theme and music and you could stay in the tent and dance and hang out as long as you wanted before you left for the next tent. My friend MAtt and I decided to run the whole thing (albeit stopping at each tent to do a little jig and cut a little rug... eric would be proud) Matt is in much better shape than me and finished the run way ahead of me but I kept up with him for quite a while! I did end the run actually running/jogging across the finish line and that was awesome.

It was a super fun night and we all had a great time and were exhausted by the end of it. My friend Emily made a video and posed it on facebook. Its on my page somewhere if you want to take a peek. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the night!

Sunday Night

It is currently 10:23 pm on Sunday night September 22nd, which means....

IN TWO DAYS AT THIS TIME I WILL BE IN THE ARMS OF MY LOVING AMAZING BOYFRIEND!!!!

Yes that's right ladies and gentlemen in case you didn't know Ryan is catching a 9:00 am flight out of SFO on Monday and he gets here Tuesday night 7:20pm Sydney time. I catch a flight Tuesday morning to meet him in Sydney -- I land at 5:45 and he lands at 7:20. That's going to be the longest hour and 35 mins I have ever spent in an airport.  As you can tell I am over the moon excited! I get to explore Sydney and I get to do it with the most supportive, loving, amazing man by my side.

I am so incredibly blessed sometimes I can't even believe it :)

I LOVE YOU RYAN FAIR! :)

See you in Sydney!

Severe Weather Warning :-/

Most of you have heard me talk or type about the weather conditions here. It's usually super windy and pouring rain. Well I only slept 3 hours last night (probably due to the noise from the weather but also because I am so excited to see my boyfriend in 2 days!!!) and the weather has been so intense today. The wind is so strong I swear it could rip your car door off.

Needless to say its been hurricane windy today with rain showers on and off, and then low and behold, today there was a 'severe weather warning' asking people to secure outside belongings, and anything else that could possibly blow away. Also, there were flood warnings... Hello Australia!

All I have to say is if Mother Nature does ANYTHING to stall my flight to see my love she will have HELL to pay with me! I have waited 10 weeks to see this handsome man, and I will LOSE IT if anything makes me wait longer than completely necessary!

By the way, my worry wart family members, there is no need to worry, I will not be damaged by the wind (Unless the huge tree outside my window falls and shatters my window and hits me) I just thought I would share the weather conditions with you because I found it interesting!

Perth Zoo

2 weeks ago one of Ree's friends Hillary came to visit from Tasmania. This worked wonderfully for me because since her friend was visiting she wanted to do tons of fun stuff which meant I got to do tons fo fun things also! We went to the Perth Zoo one of the days that Hilly was here and it was so fun! I love the zoo! We took the bus, to the train, to the ferry, and got to the zoo.

I was excited! I haven't been on a ferry (not that I can remember) and so It was fun to take a different mode of transportation. It was a beautiful day and the three of us had so much fun together :)

Ree's likes to be in my photos ;)

Crime Scene Activity

You've all read how much I rave about my Forensic Science class and how much I love it. Today was a highly anticipated day because we got to investigate a REAL crime scene.

OK, not exactly real, but as close as we will ever get. Since my teacher is the Police chief he can basically do whatever he wants, and so he took all the evidence (copies of course not the real things) from a crime scene and adapted them to our class so that we can learn the process of investigating a real scene and the motions you have to go through.

We were placed into groups. My group had 9 people. Each group got their own classroom, and we were given a binder to look over. The binder had the introduction to the crime scene. We 9 students are the "forensic team" and we have been called to the scene bythe detective. All he tells us is they have probable cause to search the house, yard, cars, etc. and all we know is there was a woman reported missing 13 days ago, the owner of the house is the former lover of the woman, and there is a strange smell coming from the backyard. That was the only information we had to go on.

So from there, we had to decide as a team what we wanted to do first.  We secured the scene and decided to go straight to the source of the smell. Our teacher is the facilitator of the crime scene investigation so once we decided what we wanted to do as a group, we would tell him our plan of action, and if it was correct, he would reward us with pictures of the next progressive step to processing the scene.

For example, we said "We secured the scene, so now we want to go straight to the source of the funny smell in the backyard" he said, "Nope, you're missing something." So we had to figure out what.... Finally we got it and said, "We want to call in an expert on shoe impressions to process our walkway to ensure we don't damage any evidence on the way (through the side yard) to the smell in the back yard"
"YES! He said, so we then had to submit a paper requesting a shoe impression expert and wait 2 minutes (to simulate waiting for the real expert to arrive on scene) and then he gave us pictures of the evidence that the shoe expert found. This went on from 9am-1pm (on a sunday I may add) and it was great fun and a wonderful way to learn. I absolutely loved it!

The only thing that put a damper on my experience was this horrible woman that was in my group. She was just absolutely unbearable and she chose to sit RIGHT next to me. She would talk over everyone, interrupt everyone, literally GRAB pictures out of people's hands, and shoot down people's ideas (most often WE were right and she was WRONG) with her "right ideas" and it was absolutely obnoxious. By the end of the 4 hours I was about to give my teacher a new crime scene to investigate.... I can tell you a lot more about this frustrating aspect of this wonderful day in person as I don't want to waste my time typing about it. But I have no problem telling it verbally ;)

Overall, it was an absolutely wonderful, once in a lifetime learning experience and I am so thankful for it. Now I have to write a 2500 word essay about it! Woo!

Here's two pictures. They aren't that great because I had to be sly about them!

(some of) my group.
We had brownies (yum) and you can see some pictures in plastic sleeves and binders with info. We sat in our group formation and discussed the evidence and decided what to do before going and talking to the teacher to obtain more evidence and move through the crime scene.

The absolutely annoying know it all rude "lady" that drove me CRAZY!
Had to steal a picture because once you guys hear the story you will
want to have been able to picture her face! So here it is!

Perth Rain

The wonderful Perth Rain...

Anberlin!

By a happy set of unfortunate circumstances (if that's possible) I got to go see Anberlin, a band I love, in Fremantle last Wednesday 9/11/13.

My friend Marcus had 3 tickets to go to Anberlin and the people he was originally supposed to go with couldn't make it anymore, so he had to find 2 people to go with him or he was going to go alone. He was texting Reearna about the concert and asked her if she would like to go (even though she didn't know anything about the bands) and she said yes. Later, when she told me she was going to a concert I asked her who she was seeing and she said "Umm... The Maine and Anberlin??"

My jaw dropped! I said, "Are you SERIOUS!!! I LOVE THEM!" and then she texted Marcus and asked if I could come since I loved the bands and he said "Yeah, I can work something out!"

Behold, I had the golden ticket!

You can tell I'm not excited...

Ree and I had to get ready in 10 minutes and run to the train station to meet Marcus in Leederville, where he would pick us up and drive us to Fremantle. It was DUMPING rain (I took a video, we'll see if I can get it to work on here) and we got to the venue early (before the doors opened) to ensure we got to see all the bands. There were 4 in total and I enjoyed all of them except one.

Seeing the Maine was great, as I like their music but the lead singer was trashed and that made me lose respect for them as a band, and as performers.

The anticipation to see Anberlin was driving me INSANE. From the time that Marcus said he had a ticket for me (5pm) til Anberlin took the stage (10:30pm) I was so excited!!!!!

They put on an absolutely AMAZING show. I was so impressed and so happy and excited and just a bursting ball of excitement!!! They played many of the songs that I love and everything about it was wonderful. I got to go to a concert, in a "foreign country," with my best friend here, to a band that I LOVE! What more could a girl ask for?!

It was by far the best night I have had in Australia yet. :)

My excited face haha :)

Thank you Marcus!
